The Importance of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Search engine optimisation (otherwise known as SEO) is the process of affecting the online visibility of your website or a web page in a web search engine’s unpaid results – often with a focus on Google’s search results. This is often referred to as “natural”, “organic” or “earned” results. In general, the higher you rank on the search engine results page (SERP), and the more frequently a website appears in the search results, the more visitors it will receive. These visitors can then become customers, prospects or retargeted through further marketing. SEO is achieved through optimising for several different mediums of search including image search, video search and more.

SEO is becoming increasingly important in a digital age where consumers are seeking information relevant to them quickly. The internet has become an integral tool for businesses to reach out to potential and existing customers. The use of this technology has been used to increase sales and improve customer service for businesses all around the world.

Any digital strategy that does not include SEO is not an efficient strategy. SEO is a critical component of your website’s success, particularly in a post-COVID-19 world, where more and more prospects are heading online, instead of into your store. In fact, according to data released by Google, 80% of all web traffic comes via search engines. If you don’t have a good strategy in place, you could be missing out on this traffic and you could be finding it hard to find new leads or customers.

If you want your site to rank highly in Google or Bing search results, then you need to start implementing changes now, otherwise you risk falling behind your competitors. The longer you postpone action, the further behind you put your business. That being said, it is integral to be making these changes with a complete understanding of SEO, and with a long term plan established. This plan should begin with a thorough analysis of where your site is currently – including all technical, on-page and off-page SEO. Having a professional help you with this will ensure the best possible results with the lowest cost and time spent. Once you have an understanding of where your website is at, it will be easier to create a plan moving forward.
